Usdan student Jasmine Shayla Modeste’s talent on display

exhibit called "Reflections, Imagination, Interpretations & Designs"

Last month, Usdan student Jasmine Shayla Modeste’s talent was on display.  Her work was included in an ArtsAlive LI exhibition featuring work of African-American artists.

It started when the Westbury Arts Council asked for volunteers to assist in painting a mural in the kids play area at Roosevelt Field Mall, Jasmine – an artist who cultivated her talent over the years at Usdan -- eagerly volunteered.

It was there that Jasmine met the Director of the Westbury Arts Council and made quite an impression on her. So, when ArtsAliveLI was looking for artists to submit their art for consideration in the African-American Artists exhibit, the Director requested that Jasmine submit her work for consideration.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Jasmine, at 15-years-old, ended up being the youngest artist featured in that 11-person exhibition, which was up through the month of February. And it didn’t stop there: She successfully sold her first piece of her work on the first night of the exhibit, and even received a citation from Nassau County Financial controller George Maragos!

Jasmine is also included in another exhibit at the Malverne library, as part of an exhibit called "Reflections, Imagination, Interpretations & Designs" that's running until 4/15.

We congratulate Jasmine on these great accomplishments – and we’re excited to see the momentum continue this summer at Usdan.
