What's New With U? Week 6

Cellists posing with their cellos in the woods.

This week was bursting with Usdan traditions that united our community of over a thousand campers and staff, while also celebrating what makes each of us unique.

Tuesday's Festival threw us back to the 1970s with a captivating performance by The Chameleons: a world-renowned mime duo that has been performing at Usdan's Festival for over 50 years.

On Thursday, students in Classic and Recreational Camp participated in the Red Object Exchange: an annual tradition in which students bring a red object from home to leave somewhere on campus. Students can then take a red object that someone else has left at any time during the day. The exchange leads to a vibrant display of over a thousand red objects across Usdan's woods. At the annual 5 Year Lunch, we raised a glass of soda to 100 students who have been at Usdan for 5 or more years, many of whom started in Discovery. We've loved watching these students develop their individual creative voice and make lifelong friends.

Now halfway through our 4B Session, we are starting to find our groove at camp. Instrumental and vocal groups are playing and singing in harmony, young visual artists are collaborating on art pieces for the Week 8 Parade, cast mates are helping each other get "off book" and learn choreography, Recreational Camp students are perfecting their bullseye, and chess players are exchanging tips to boost their endgame. The power of Usdan's inclusive community that ignites creativity is becoming more and more apparent. It's a wonderful thing to witness.

We can't wait to see what next week brings!

See U next week!
